Ten years ago, the Florida Department of Health created the We Make the Change (WMTC) campaign – a statewide media campaign designed to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS and to encourage testing throughout Florida’s minority communities.
Anson-Stoner and the Florida Department of Health teamed up to spread the program’s key messages. The agency created traditional and nontraditional advertising campaigns, with media ranging from radio commercials and public service announcements to online components such as a Web site and blog.
Anson-Stoner coordinated event-outreach opportunities and utilized media relations to promote various initiatives, including community-based programs such as SOS (Sistas Organizing to Survive), LUCES (Latinas Unidas Contra el SIDA), AATI (African-American Testing Initiative), and the Florida Faith-based Initiative.
To date, We Make the Change continues to grow as a multi-faceted, nationally recognized awareness program. Its initiatives have been touted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as “best practices” for HIV prevention. In addition, the successful campaign has contributed to statewide increases in HIV testing.
We are proud to work with the Florida Department of Health to help stop the spread of this epidemic and to celebrate 10 years of making changes to better our communities.
