The Role of Media Relations in the U.S.
On behalf of the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of HIV/AIDS and in conjunction with the Duval County Health Department, Anson-Stoner account executive Sarah Bridegroom was selected by the Bureau to share her expertise of HIV media relations at the International Visitor Corps of Jacksonville’s (IVCJax) most recent panel discussion. “The Role of Media in the U.S., A Sub-Regional Project for Africa,” examined the role of media when addressing social issues. Eleven African reporters were invited to attend.
Program objectives included:
- An introduction to the principles of American journalism, press freedom, and the evolving role of media;
- Examining the independence of the American media from the government;
- Exploring the principles and practices of investigative and civic journalism; and
- Reviewing the diversity of types of media organizations.
The International Visitor Corps of Jacksonville is a non-profit, non-partisan organization shaping U.S. Foreign Policy. IVCJax is the local partner for the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program.
